About Asset Log

Asset Log is a personal finance journal kept by a 30-year-old company employee living in Tokyo. The mission is simple: publish real numbers, real experience, and real mistakes — so that anyone trying to build wealth in Japan can learn from them without the marketing spin.

Why I Write This Blog

When I started investing in 2022, almost all the Japanese investing content I found was either:

  • Generic theory without real numbers
  • Affiliate-driven recommendations dressed up as advice
  • Bragging by people who clearly inherited capital

I wanted to read a blog that would simply say “this is what I have, this is what I bought, this is what went wrong, this is what I changed.” So I decided to write that blog myself.

Editorial Principles

  1. Only services I actually use. If I haven’t put my own money into it, I don’t recommend it.
  2. Real numbers, not ranges. When discussing my own portfolio, I share specific figures, dates, and outcomes — including losses.
  3. No specific stock picks. I’ll talk about index funds and broad categories, but I will not recommend individual stocks or coins. That’s not what helps readers.
  4. Disclose every affiliation. If a link is monetized, you’ll see the affiliate or PR marker clearly.
  5. Mistakes are part of the content. The wrong decisions teach more than the right ones.

What This Blog Is NOT

  • Not investment advice. Everything is my personal experience, not a recommendation for your situation.
  • Not a get-rich-quick guide. I’m a salaryman, not a hedge fund.
  • Not financially objective. I have my own biases (long-term passive, light crypto). I try to be transparent about them.
